Stepping Into Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur: My First International Seminar

This week, I’m heading to Malaysia for the Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur—my first international seminar.

A First Step Beyond Familiar Grounds

This week, I’m heading to Malaysia for the Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur—my first international seminar since leaving government service. Back then, I used to attend events as a speaker or representative of an LGU. This time, I’m attending purely as a learner. No presentations. No official role. Just me, ready to absorb, listen, and grow.

It feels different. Instead of standing on stage, I’ll be in the audience, taking notes and chasing insights. And honestly? I welcome that shift.

Why Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur Matters

SCECL isn’t just another conference—it’s a convergence of ideas, technologies, and people shaping the future of cities. For me, it’s a chance to expand my horizon. To learn how global leaders are using innovation to address urban challenges, and to imagine how those lessons can translate back home.

More than that, it’s a space for networking and capacity building. The kind where conversations open doors to collaborations, and connections plant seeds for future projects.

A New Role, A New Challenge

This trip also feels like a personal test. It’s my chance to prove something in my new role outside government. I want to come back with fresh perspectives, not just for myself, but for the team I’m working with now. The responsibility feels lighter without the official badge—but in some ways, it’s heavier. This time, the outcome rests on me alone.

Wrapping Up: Growth in the Unfamiliar

Attending SCEKL isn’t just about traveling abroad. It’s about stepping outside my comfort zone, embracing the role of a learner, and letting new ideas shape the way I see digital transformation. It’s not a finish line—it’s the start of a wider journey.
